Dear Aunty Annette

You have led a very fulfilled life - one that many, including myself could only dream of having. I've always been fascinated by your stories of traveling the world, being an expert witness in numerous court cases, to being very acquainted with the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, and I've been in awe that you chose to lead a life that is so very modest.

When I received news that you have been admitted into the intensive care unit at UMMC, I was shocked. How did it happened? I asked my mum. You suffered from a stroke, fell and injured your head - I was told. Later, your relatives told me that you had been lying there for hours, probably a day before you were found. "She is a fighter" were the words they used to describe you.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw you on the hospital bed, desperately grasping for life. Your frail body so tense, and your face in pain as you breathed through the oxygen apparatus. I wished I could have done something to ease that pain. But I am helpless.

An hour after I had visited you, I received a call from your relative telling me that you have passed on.

I shall not forget the times I used to fetch you for Sunday masses at the Bricksfield churches, nor will I forget the stories you shared over the lunch treats you provided at the Royal Selangor Club.

You will be very much missed. Rest in peace dear aunty.

Yours very sincerely,

The kid you once inspired.
